Al-Qayyum

And so we face the question
for which the answer must be
'yes' or 'no', though

'no' amounts to more than denial and
'yes' opens the door to a lifetime
of possibility, and

'no' amounts to more than spiralling doubt and
'yes' opens the door to a lifetime
of clarity, and

'no' amounts to more than disenchantment and
yes' opens the door to a lifetime
of mystery, and

is there a being ever living
self-subsisting, who does not need me
yet upon whom I depend for everything that matters

in this life and the next?

I'm not looking for a Pascal's gamble
maybe I'm looking to repent
maybe looking for hope

but more than anything
I'm looking for truth, the kind of truth that
belongs with the sweetest trust

truth to explain my unlikely existence
here, in this universe, passing through
in search of purpose

one built entirely on the You in me
the Fount of All Being
never fading away
